SWIGroup is an Italian company leading in the design and supply of cutting-edge systems for rainwater treatment, as well as in providing environmental and engineering studies in the field of rainwater management in ports, highways, and sewer systems.
The heart of our business
Stormwater runoff from urban areas and industrial activities is one of the main sources of pollutants in water sources and oceans, damaging their quality and endangering human health. International water institutions are engaged since 1990s to increase water quality standards, and overcoming the confusing regulatory obligations and potential criminal sanctions pose a real challenge to private company and water utilities. From our experience, in the case of stormwater management, it is essential to evaluate all aspects related to the anthropogenic activities carried out in the area involved in water runoff collection.
Challenges due to climate change are also critical elements when designing optimal treatment plants to ensure high water quality standards at discharge and/or water reuse. All these aspects, together with the tailored design of stormwater treatment plants based on state-of-the-art technologies, constitutes the core of our mission. This is carried out by our technical team of environmental engineers, technicians, and field engineers. The team shares expertise in different sectors such as engineering, IT, legal and technical operation procedures, providing a 360-degree support.
An all-around approach: Analysis and Fitting
Our team starts studying and clearly portraying the current situation of the intervention area, also analysing how the environmental legislation will influence the technical design.
Subsequently, thanks to our knowledge and know-how gained in this sector, we can tailor strategic engineering and environmental solutions for our customers. We are expert in developing and making the best use of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) existing on the market for stormwater management, combined with a meticulous activity of retrofitting existing water infrastructure and treatment plants.
We consider the fusion of these aspects (innovative measures and tailored solutions) the key to success and a critical aspect of our business mission, delivering our customers the highest environmental quality standards.
Installation, monitoring and maintenance
We have matured 15+ years of expertise in supplying, monitoring and maintaining our stormwater treatment plants, in the case of new treatment plants as well as retrofitted existing ones. This is carried out by our experts in each phase of execution, passing through monitoring phases until the maintenance stage.
From words to actions
Another important commitment towards our customers consists in elaborating the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), as a requested or suggested for a best wastewater management, which is an essential asset in reducing water pollution and avoiding potential environmental sanctions. In addition, we provide technical and bureaucratic assistance in administrative proceeding to acquire necessary environmental permits to discharge wastewater such as IPPC permission for environmental emissions (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control).
Towards new horizons
Our pool of R&D, engineering, and IT experts continue to study and develop new ways to digitalise our technologies and the stormwater sector, as well as providing new technologies and approaches to ensure high standards in managing accidental spillages of polluted contaminants in water bodies In the field of stormwater management, new digital technologies are needed to: a) further protect the environment, soil and water bodies, from the dispersion of pollutants; b) increase the efficiency of the processes carried out by water infrastructures. In most of our applications we provide continuous monitoring systems such as: multi parametric water quality probes (ex: turbidity, conductivity, pH, temperature); real-time controlled actuators to regulate flow conditions within the treatment plant; Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems that includes gateways and routers. The implementation of such continuous monitoring systems also provides huge amounts of data, which are analysed to better tune and optimise our treatment plants and our services.
Moreover, studying the latest environmental legislation of European Institutions, thanks to our legal team, makes our services long-term sustainable even referring to the compliance with the law.
